Please note that you are welcome to apply to become involved with Mentoring Plus at any time during the year. We are always happy to take on new Mentors even if the training dates have passed!

Induction & Enrolment
Thursday 25 or Tuesday 30 September 2008
6.30pm - 8.30pm
@ Mentoring Plus
Mentors are invited to complete application forms and attend an introductory session when the programme and role is explained. Police checks and references are obtained.
Mentor Core Training
Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 October 2008
9.30 - 4.00pm
@ Mentoring Plus
Covers a range of topics relevant to the mentor role, for instance, engaging young people, anti-oppressive practice, social exclusion, education, working with young people at risk, confidentiality and action planning.
Residential Courses
Weekend November 2008
The 3 day residential course is highly structured and includes challenging outdoor activities and groupwork. This is a real opportunity for mentors to create relationships with young people before being individually matched. Each young person returns with an individual action plan for the year ahead.
Mentoring Ongoing from
March 2008 and October 2008
Mentors are individually matched with young people after the first residential and meet regularly thereafter. In addition, mentor couples are encouraged to attend a range of activities and interest groups which help sustain motivation and support networks.
Mentor Training & Supervision
Ongoing
Mentors are expected to attend an ongoing training programme and individual supervision. The ‘Community Mentoring ’ Award is formally accredited by the Open College Network.
Education & Training Programme
Ongoing
In partnership with local training providers, a personalised package is developed for each young person which might include basic literacy and numeracy skills, IT skills, a college course and careers guidance. A Young Persons Information Point (YPIP) is available for young people to explore career / education options.
Work Experience
Ongoing
Young people are given the opportunity to undertake a volunteering placement where they can gain formal work experience.
Interest Groups
Ongoing
A variety of groups are offered including a Motor Group, Cookery Group, Woodwork Group, Bicycle Group, Climbing Group, a DJing Project. They are designed to assist young people to develop practical, social and educational.
Celebration Event
Young people and mentors are formally congratulated on their achievements.
Activities
Ongoing
A range of activities are offered eg. rowing, climbing, gorge walking, camping trips and rugby
Accreditation
All aspects of the programme can be accredited through Youth Achievement Awards
